What are “Projects” and why would I care?
- Projects are what Seamless is all about. The work that you want to share gets uploaded to Seamless and organised into Projects. Each project can contain additional information like the name of your work, when you made it, who you made it for and a description. It's the projects (which includes the work you've uploaded) that get displayed on your portfolio.

How can change the order that my work appears on my portfolio?
- Go to your projects and the order you see your projects in is the same order they'll appear on your portfolio. You just click and drag your projects into the order you want (top-to-bottom).
[Hint: click and drag the little up and down arrows on either side] -
Can I create a project but not have it appear on my portfolio yet?
-
Absolutely. In fact you can do this in one of three ways.
i) If you're creating a new project – click that you'd like to add some more details ("Any other details you'd like to add?") and click the box near the bottom that says "Would you like to hide this project?". Because you do.
ii) If you're editing a project – scroll to the bottom of the page and click that you'd like to hide this project and then save you changes.
iii) From your projects page – click the button labelled "make it hidden" to hide it.
All three methods achieve the same thing. Your project still exists and you can see it, but it's not shown on your portfolio site. -
What are “Sets” and why would I care?
- Sets are to Seamless as Categories are to blogs. You can label one or more projects as belonging to a set and when someone viewing your portfolio clicks on a set, they'll see only the projects with that set's label. As a practical example you might have several paintings that are part of a series. You can give each project a set label of whatever your series is called. Or perhaps you have a bunch of projects that were part of an exhibit last year, you could have a set for that exhibition and so on.
Themes
-
What are “Themes” and why would I care?
- Themes are designs for your portfolio. Each theme has a preview so you can get a rough idea of what it'll look like. If you enable a theme (by clicking on "enable theme") it'll become your active theme - the one being used to style your impressive portfolio. You can switch themes as often as you like. Seamless comes with a few themes now, but we've got plans for much more choice for you. Keep an eye out over at the theme store for new themes.
-
How do I change the look of my portfolio? (Simple)
- Giving you portfolio a whole new look is simple. Go to Themes, and enable another theme. Done. Honestly!
-
How do I change the look of my portfolio? (“No, I mean REALLY change it”)
- Each theme's layout and styling is controlled by a CSS file, a stylesheet, just like a regular website is. Each theme comes with an additional stylesheet that you can use to override anything and everything. Remember, you're just overriding, you don't change anything in the theme itself so go crazy! Be our guest! To do this, go to Themes and click "Edit CSS" for whichever theme you want to mess around with.
Events
-
What are “Events” and why would I care?
- Events are your upcoming appearances/happenings/events that you want to tell your fans/visitors/groupies about.
-
Can I hide Events like I can hide Projects?
- Nope. If an event is the the past it won't be shown on your portfolio site, but everything from today onwards will be shown.
Site Settings
-

-

-
How do I use my own domain name for my portfolio?
- There are two steps to this.
Firstly you'll need to change your domain name's nameserver. This will be somewhere along with your DNS settings. Most domain name registrars (the people you pay for your domain name every year) provide this service so your first port of call would be to bug those guys and see if you can log in to their site to administer your domain name settings. You should be able to set two or three nameservers. Set the first one toNS1.DNSWEBBY.COMand the second one toNS2.DNSWEBBY.COMdon't worry about setting any of the others. Save these changes.
Next come back to Seamless and go to your preferences and click on the "Site Settings" tab. Uncheck the check box labelled "I don't have a domain of my own so I'm using a subdomain" and a new text box should appear that's labelled "Your site's web address". In this magical new text box you'll put your domain name (include the .com or .co.uk or whatever and a www if you want that too. Eg www.mygreatdomainname.com) and save the changes.
That's all there is to it but bear in mind that these changes can take a little while to propagate through the intertubes and wotnot. Sometimes it can take 24-48 hours.
Lastly, I know this isn't the simplest thing in the world to figure out on your own so if you get stuck send me an email and we'll work through it together. help@uhhuhyeah.com -
How do I use a subdomain for my portfolio if I don't have my own domain name?
- A subdomain is the part of the web address after the
http://bit and before themysite.compart. Go to preferences and click on the "Site Settings" tab. Enter something in the "Subdomain" field and save your changes. Now your portfolio can be viewed by going tohttp://whatever_your_subdomain_is.madebyseamless.com -
How do I get my own domain name?
- You need to buy a domain name (or register one as they call it) with a domain name registrar. Unfortunately you can't get one through us (but maybe one day...). A quick Google search will bring up more than a few choices for you - or better yet get some recommendations from a friend. Providing your choice of domain name is available you'll "register" it for a certain period of time. Normally a year at a time. Most registrars charge ~$10 U.S. a year. Many give discounts for committing to registering for more than a year or if you pay up front for a number of years. Just don't forget to renew at the end of your term or your domain name will be up for grabs again! Once you have a domain name all our own, follow the steps outlined here to use it with Seamless.

How do I add Google Analytics to track visits to my portfolio?
-
Google Analytics is a free service from Google that gives you lots of useful data on the visitors to you portfolio. You'll need to do three simple things to get this setup.
1. If you haven't already, you'll need to setup a Google Analytics account (this is free).
2. Log in to your Google Analytics account and create a website profile for your portfolio. Firstly you'll need to click on create website profile. On the next screen under "Choose Website Profile Type" select "Add a Profile for a new domain". Underneath that you'll be asked for the URL (web address) to your portfolio. Set up your time zone as appropriate and click "Finish". On the next page, make a note of your "Web Property ID". This will look something likeUA-xxxxxx-xbut with numbers where the x's are. Ignore everything else it tells you to do and click finish.
3. In Seamless, go to your preferences and under the "Site Settings" tab enter your "Web Property ID" into the box labelled "Your Google Analytics tracking number" and save the changes.
And that's it. You can go back to your Google Analytics account and view reports on the visits to your portfolio site. -
How can I find out my Google Analytics tracking number?
- Once you've set up an account with Google Analytics and set up a website profile for your portfolio you'll need to give you Google Analytics tracking number to Seamless. Note: Seamless doesn't all of the code Google tells you to insert into your pages, we just need the tracking number for your site's profile. This is the number that looks like
UA-xxxxxx-x. This video from Google tells you were to get this number if you're not sure where to look. (You should be looking out for the "Web Property ID". That is your tracking code.)
